We Need Our Dreamers, Too

Dreams as Higher Reality

“Wisdom begins in wonder.” – Socrates

yours foolie doesn’t think there’s a much more respected mind in recent history than this one:

“The true sign of intelligence is not knowledge but imagination… Imagination is more important than knowledge.” – Albert Einstein.

Let’s read that again. He didn’t say “as important as intelligence… as important as knowledge”. He said specifically that dreaming’s MORE important than thinking ~ did you notice that?

He’s not alone, either:

“I believe in the imagination. What I cannot see is infinitely more important than what I can see.” – Duane Michals

Or Edgar Allen Poe:

“Those who dream by day are cognizant of many things that escape those who dream only at night.”

Wait ~ there it is again: a better understanding of reality by dreamers than by those exclusively focused on reality?

Yep, that’s what they’re saying. Some seem to be saying that it is only dreamers who achieve a proper understanding of reality AT ALL! Check it out:

“Sometimes, the only realists are the dreamers.” – Paul Wellstone

“Only the dreamer shall understand realities.” – Margaret Fuller

Dreams have value

“Dreams are today’s answers to tomorrow’s questions.” – Edgar Cayce

There’s no getting around it:
“You have to dream before your dreams can come true.” – Abdul Kalam

“Today a reader, tomorrow a leader.” – Margaret Fuller

After all:

“All men who have achieved great things have been great dreamers.” – Orison Swett Marden

“All men of action are dreamers.” – James Huneker

We will be considering in a future section of this series what actions may be taken by us to recreate current reality (as, we have seen, we continually must) in an image more fitting of the prime directives embodied in our Constitution.

As we do so, remember:

“Yesterday is but today’s memory ~ and tomorrow is today’s dream.” – Khalil Gibran

Never stop dreaming

“Man is a genius when he is dreaming.” – Akira Kurosawa

“Dream, and give yourself permission to envision…” – Joy Page

Don’t be like Jean-Paul Sartre, who later in life wrote of a period of youthful disillusionment:

“Like all dreamers, I mistook disenchantment for truth.”

yours foolie imagines that a more precise rendering of the sentiment might read: “Like all dreamers I allowed the naysayers around me to talk me out of dreaming for a while ~ but I figured out that was no way to live, and went back to my visions, the reality of which is (will be, God willing) much more attractive than the mess this world is being left in by my uncaring brethren.”

So ~ yours foolie encourages one and all never, ever to stop dreaming. In the words of Malcolm Forbes:

“When you cease to dream you cease to live.”

Think left and think right and think low and think high. Oh, the thinks you can think up if only you try!

Dr. Seuss

treasure your dreams

                                                                                                  Treasure your dreams …

… and those of others

“Cherish your visions and your dreams as they are the children of your soul, the blueprints of your ultimate achievements.”
Napoleon Hill
dream big

                                                                                                Forget about dreaming little

Dream BIG!

“ Dream no small dreams for they have no power to move the hearts of men.” – Goethe

And it requires only to move the hearts of men for a dream to come true. If that weren’t so, our women wouldn’t be allowed to vote and there’d be no black people in our colleges.

“Never think that one small person with a great idea can’t change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.” – Helen Keller

So, continue to:

“Dream manfully and nobly, and thy dreams shall be prophets.” – Edward G. Bulwer-Lytton

“The power of imagination makes us infinite.” – John Muir

teilliard de chardin

“The future belongs to those who give the next generation reason for hope.”

Pierre Teilhard de Chardin
